Appleton, WI- Surface Mount Technology Corporation was excited to host Governor Scott Walker on December, 12th 2012. Gov. Walker made the appearance as part of his “Talk With Walker” initiative to gain valuable input from company owners as well as various employees of the organization on the direction for the state of Wisconsin as well as receive feedback on his planned budget.
Gov. Walker’s visit began with a short conversation between himself and SMT’s leaders to gain a better understanding of SMT as well as receive their input on ways the state government can be working to encourage development for SMT as well as other small to midsize privately held organizations.
Following this brief discussion Gov. Walker spoke to the entire company outlining his focus and plan for the upcoming budget. He then opened up the floor to SMT employees to ask any question they wanted relating to the budget or any other topic. The questions ranged from workforce development issues to funding for public transportation, specifically high speed rail. The Governor was even asked how his family spends the holidays, and what they talk about around the dinner table.
The visit was very informative both for employees of SMT as well as the input Gov. Walker received. It was an honor to host the event. Gov. Walker’s visit to SMT also marked the third visit a sitting Governor has made to SMT since its founding in 1997. For more information on SMT please visit www.teamsmt.com
