SMT Completes Phase 2 and 3 of Expansion

Surface Mount Technology is proud to announce the completion of Phase 2 & 3 of their expansion project. The expansion is being driven by strong demand for prototype, assembly, and Higher Level assembly services and growth in revenue.

SMT Forecast is for Growth in Upcoming Year

Grand Chute-based Surface Mount Technology Corp., a contract electronics manufacturer, expects to regain ground lost to the prolonged recession. “Our forecast for 2011 calls for a 17 percent increase in sales,” said Brian Lamers, Vice President of Finance and Administration. The company’s $2.5 million expansion, which added 26,000 square feet of manufacturing space, is expected to be ready by week’s end. Finished product ready to ship bodes well for the new business year. On the year, the firm anticipates being 28 percent ahead of 2009 on sales, which is about where it stood before the onslaught of the recession, said company president Chris Sumnicht

One of the company’s big strengths is fast turnaround times on prototypes based on customers’ specifications. The company maintains a design leg, SMT Engineering, to provide them, and manufactures completed assemblies under the same roof.

Nationally, factory output grew 0.3 percent in November, the fifth straight month of gains, the Federal Reserve said recently. Production of computers, industrial equipment, appliances and electronic goods all rose. Economists say this is evidence companies and consumers are spending more.

Factory output has recovered by 10.6 percent since its low point in June 2009, according to Steven Wood, chief economist with Insight Economics. Still, it remains 9.1 percent below its peak in April 2007.
